If you've never experienced the awe that fills you when you play music with other people, you need to. It's proof positive that we are all connected. Discover how your Native American Flute is a diverse instrument. It blends well with instruments from all around the world. You can play along with different instruments such as: guitars, drums, pianos, keyboards, strings, synthesizers etc.. As examples of the music that you can accompany, I have chosen a few songs for each of the 12 keys. The songs are a diverse collection of music from very talented musicians from around the globe. They are a lot of fun to accompany. The songs are instrumentals. These are original pieces of work written and performed by the artists themselves.

To start playing along you need to know two things:
#1. What is the root note of your Native American Flute?
#2. How to breathe using your diaphragm.

#1. What is the root note of your Native American Flute?

The root note is the note you are playing when all the holes are covered on your flute. Listen to the single notes below to determine the root note of your flute. Click on the Blue Highlighted Notes Below and at the same time, play your flute (cover all the holes). You will hear when the note you are playing on your flute matches the note that I am playing on my flute. Then you will know the root note of your flute.

* NOTE - Breathing Pressure Effects Pitch
If you use too much pressure, your flute will play sharp.
If you use too little pressure, your flute will play flat.

#2. How to Breathe Using Your diaphragm.

The pressure that you are using to blow into the flute comes from using your diaphragm to control it. Don't confuse pressure, with amount of air. It's not the amount of the air, it's the pressure behind it.

Breathing from your diaphragm is paramount to getting the most out of your Native American Flute playing experience.

Change Your Diaphragm Pressure

You can raise and lower the pitch of any note on your flute by a large amount simply by changing the pressure that you are using when you breathe using your diaphragm muscle. Watch the video below.

Playing Along With The Songs Below

You can play many different notes on your flute. You can use many different fingering patterns to play the notes on your flute.

The most widely used and the easiest fingering pattern is the Minor Pentatonic pattern.
