"I have received
the book I am very pleased with it. I've had my flute for a few years now,
and now have time to try and play it. With the help of your book,
I am now making good sounds out of it. I thank you very much."

Chromatic
Scale ~ Fingering Chart
For 5 Hole Flute
and 6 Hole Flute

|
|
Overblow notes are
played by blowing harder. This is an art form in itself. If you
blow too hard, your flute will squeak. If you blow too soft,
your flute will not jump up to the next register. |

What is different between a 6-hole flute and a 5-hole flute?
|
1. |
|
|
|
A 6 hole native
american flute can play one note that a 5 hole native american
flute can not play. |
|
|
|
|
2. |
 |
|
|
These notes between the tie-bar are the same notes on the 5-hole
flute as are on the 6-hole flute. They sound the same. You play
them differently on a 5-hole flute than you do on a 6-hole flute.
They are easier to play on a 6-hole flute. |

Playing Half
Hole Notes
With
a well-made Native American Flute ½ holes are EASY once
you learn about breathing,
finger placement, and air resistance. Each native american flute, as well
as each hole, has a sweet spot where the ½ hole note comes
in on perfect pitch. Sometimes you only have to cover ¼
of the hole, sometimes it's 5/8's
of the hole. Some flutes will not play ½ holes very easily
.
Playing Overblow
Notes
The last three notes in the chromatic scale have an o
under them. You create the notes by overblowing. This is an art
form in itself.
You may not be able to get your flute to play all of the overblow
notes. It depends on who made your flute. Not all Native
American Flutes are equal. |
|
|
Same Note ~ Different Position |
|
|
|
You can play many
notes in different places on your native american flute. I have
listed one example of the same note played in a different position.
These picture flute tabs make it easy to see the difference.
